The Seed Contains the Tree & TENDERSTRONG

“The Seed Contains the Tree” unites Chicago-based artists Madeline Gallucci and Scott Wolniak through their shared dedication to experimental, layered painting. Gallucci’s work, rooted in language and place, explores mirrors and urban environments with staining techniques and mark-making. Wolniak creates “energy fields” through abstract drawing, textures, and rhythmic marks. Their first joint exhibition in Asia cultivates a vibrant garden of cross-pollination and painterly dialogue.

The exhibition “TENDERSTRONG” centers on the warmth, tenderness, and strength of female artists, showcasing Meredith S. Kopelman and Jiuduo’s profound explorations of life, emotion, and identity. Meredith reflects everyday experiences through vibrant colors and luminosity, revealing life’s beauty in its imperfections, while Jiuduo uses the cat as a mirror to explore the complexities of human nature and emotion, reflecting women’s joys and sorrows. Through their perspectives, the exhibition reveals the coexistence of tenderness and strength, inviting viewers to find their own reflections and reminding us of the joy and beauty in being alive amidst chaos and pain.

(Scott Wolniak)

Scott Wolniak’s paintings build atmospheric spaces through abstract lines, layered textures, and color staining, inspired by the natural world. His works, likened to “visual music,” use initial layers as rhythmic foundations for fluid surface movements. Describing his paintings as “energy fields,” Wolniak balances contemplation and humor, merging order with chance.

(Madeline Gallucci)

Madeline Gallucci’s work employs staining techniques and layered mark-making to create abstract yet grounded visual spaces. Centered on mirrors as tools for self-reflection and urban environments captured through windows and fragments, her art explores the interplay between self-awareness and the external world, inviting viewers into a space between reality and imagination.

(Meredith S. Kopelman)

Meredith S. Kopelman’s practice reflects everyday experiences through unexpected prisms, employing vibrant colours, material explorations, and luminosity through form and line. Painting becomes a stage to depict life from an emotional reality, weaving abstraction and representation with memory and fantasy. The physical act of painting engages her entire body, infusing the process with playfulness, confidence, and spontaneity. She believes that we are all part of a moment in time, and life’s beauty lies in its imperfections and chaos.
